One of the many period films I love is the 2004 film, Vanity Fair, starring Reese Witherspoon, Gabriel Byrne, Jonathan Rhys Meyer, James Purefoy, and Romola Garai. The story takes place in 1802 London where a poor Becky Sharp {Witherspoon} defies her poverty sticken background and tries to ascend the social ladder, taking along her best friend Amelia {Garai}. Of course, it wouldn't be a drama film without some lies and deceit. Byrne plays a mysterious Lord, while Purefoy plays a handsome Colonel, Becky's love interest and subsequential husband, and Meyer plays a self obsessed Captain and Amelia's love interest. Its definitely a whirlwind of drama and a movie you can't stop watching.
One of the things I love most about the film is the costumes, especially the costumes Reese wears. They are absolutely stunning and whoever the costume designer was did a wonderful job with them. So take a look at some photo stills from the film.
Reese looks stunning in this movie. I absolutely adore her. So if you haven't seen the film then I think you should give it a try. I did, even though I had heard mediocre things about it and I loved it! Let me know what your opinion of the film is and the costumes!
