Spooky Movies

So I decided a few weekends ago while watching the Syfy channel (they had started their 31 days of Halloween marathon) that I wanted to give you all a little rundown before Halloween on some of my favorite spooky flicks that you should definitely see. If your interested in seeing them and worried about them being overly gorey well they really aren't. I love scary/horror movies (its my favorite movie genre), but without all of the gore every 5 seconds. I like them better when they are just downright creepy and scare the pants off of me. Some of these on this list are classics and you may have already seen, while others are fairly new and totally great! So here are some spooky flicks that are sure to get you in the Halloween mood {in no particular order of course}!

This film came out in 2009 and is sure to make you jump out of your seat. Although not overly scary, it definitely has the creep factor going for it. This movie is probably in my top 5 favorite scary movies. Its just one of those films that I thought was well done and it actually won a couple of awards.

A classic from 1992 although the acting and scenes are a little cheesy at times. I think Gary Oldman played the best Dracula. The creepiest moment is when Dracula's in his castle, Keanu Reeves's character is shaving and  he's 'trying' to help. Total creep factor! I haven't seen this on recently, but AMC used to play it on their Fear Friday specials throughout the year.

This is a film from 2007 that's sure to scare the pants off of you especially if your freaked out by dolls. The little ventriloquist doll in it is super creepy and the woman who owns him is even creepier. But, True Blood fans will love that the lead character is played by Ryan Kwanten {total hottie, Jason Stackhouse}. Syfy usually plays this during the Halloween season and at other times of the year.

A 1982 classic. If you haven't seen this one then your probably living in a bubble. This film is usually played on some channels every Halloween season, but for some reason I haven't seen it on this year. This one is also the first movie in a trilogy and all of them have that creep factor. I also think the little girl who plays Carol Anne in them is super adorable.

Definitely in my top 5 favorite scary movies. I waited and waited for this to come out in theaters and they kept pushing it back then it never did. It did however go straight to dvd in 2007 which I was a little confused about because it is really great and I think people would have appreciated it! The film is an anthology of four Halloween related scary stories that all take place Halloween night. At the end you then see how they all intertwine with one another and you sit there thinking did that really just happened!? I had to watch it a couple of times and I think thats why I liked it so much because it made me think about it in the end. It was just brilliant!

My number 1 favorite scary movie from 1978 and if you haven't seen it then shame on you. This is, to me, what set the standards for all scary movies after it. It's funny because I actually didn't see the whole film until 2007, but its one that I can watch over and over again without hesitation. It comes on every Halloween season and I watch it when it does everytime. I also own the dvd and watch it all year round. I'm a big fan of the whole Halloween franchise except for the 3rd one called Season of the Witch. That one was a little odd and didn't follow the Michael Myers storyline.

I am a huge Tim Burton fan and I think this 1999 film is one of his best. I love the spooky factor of this film and its a classic Halloween tale that used to scare me as a kid. It really had some great actors also which I've come to appreciate in all Tim Burton films. This movie is in my top 5 favorite scary movies.

Oh, Scream! How can you have grown up in the 90's and not seen this 1996 slasher film. This has a huge creep factor I guess because it could happen in real life. I thought it was great in the end when you do find out who the real killer(s) are and you can rewatch the movie and say ahhh now I see it. Great film! I also loved Scream 2, 3 and 4.

This is a newer film that came out in 2011. I was really excited to see it and well let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I loved it! Its got the total creep factor going on and it makes you jump a lot! If you haven't seen it then you really must. Movies like this one are what makes me appreciate scary movies just that much more.

My brother and I both share a love for this 1999 remake. Its just one of those movies that gives you the creepy vibe. They even recently came out with a sequel called Return to House on Haunted Hill. Its not bad, but not as good as the first of course. The Syfy channel has been playing this a lot this Halloween season.

I think if I had to tell you my top 5 favorite spooky movies in order it would have to be 1. Halloween 2. Drag Me To Hell 3. Sleepy Hollow 4. Trick R Treat 5. Scream. Although I really do love them all equally as well as the ones not on my top 5 that I shared above and others that I did not share. They all have something in them that makes them totally awesome and worth seeing over and over again. So has anyone seen any movies on this list? Does anyone have any favorites that are not on this list? Did anyone go see the new Silent Hill movie over the weekend!? xoxo, Kayleigh
