Pic of the Week

Look at this beauty I spotted while browsing my local Lowe's! I love this look and think it would go wonderfully in my kitchen. I need to replace the 'too modern looking' light fixture in the kitchen now very, very soon {I'm talking like, if I had the extra cash right now, I'd buy one today} because it is downright ugly and everytime we go near it one of us winds up bumping our heads on the big clunky thing! This would be a great option and its not too shabby for the price. I took this picture as a reminder so I'd remember the brand and price, etc! What do you think? Anyone have this particular light fixture in their home and want to give me a review?

The Beauty of a Pillow

Decorative pillows are such a simple decor item, yet they are so hard to pick out! Your pillows can really jazz things up or they can be blah and throw off your whole space. I almost hate choosing pillows because I never know which ones I want and can ultimately live with for awhile. I have a tendency to get sick of things easily {especially home decor items} so its somewhat really hard for me to choose.  There are so many beautiful pillows floating around the shopping world right now and that, of course, makes it twice as hard! On my couch, I have four pillows from Pottery Barn {you can find them here, I have two in blue smoke and two in sprout}, but I am sick of the matchy matchy look. I want to expand my horizons with a variety of pillows on the couch. I also eventually need to get some decorative pillows for the pull out couch in my office, as well as for my bed. Here are some swoon worthy ones I've seen lately. Maybe I can get it together and choose a couple. Some more wishful thinking!

Obsessed with Mercury Glass

I can not tell you enough how obsessed I am with mercury glass. Anytime I'm at a store and see some pieces I immediately pick them up to look at or if I'm online and see some I automatically click on it. I don't know what it is about it thats makes me so giddy inside. I love using it throughout my home and am always on the lookout for some new pieces.

I am swooning over all of this! Are you a fan too?

Artsy Tuesday - Kat Hannah

I introduce to you Kat from Kat Hannah on Etsy. An artist from Pennsylvania, Kat earned a fine art degree in sculpture, but now primarily paints narrative pieces. She says, 'These figures, at times bittersweet and reflective – are much like the times in our lives.'  She mostly creates imaginative, familiar faces although you can find an animal in there from time to time. In her shop she offers a variety of original paintings, as well as prints. Kat's theme is nostalgia, emotional wanderlust, and escapism. A lot of her work also includes redheads!

Kat Hannah is one of the very first shops I came across when I first discovered Etsy. I fell in love with her The Redhead print. It is one of my absolute favorites that I've ever come across. Through that piece I discovered an array of others by her that are absolutely beautiful! Each one tells a different story and you instantly connect with each one. I did! I especially love her mother and daughter prints {especially since I am very close with my mom}. Kat is very talented and her work is gorgeous, living proof of that. Check out some of my favorites from her below.

Aren't they just wonderful? Again, I am obsessed with The Redhead Art Print. I need to get it for my home as soon as possible! Love it! Kat also has another shop called, in a pale place, where you can find more of her pieces. You can also find that she has a vintage shop called a mighty good vintage and personal blog called Hey, You With the Stars in Your Eyes.

These Are a Few of My Favorite Stores...

Oh yea, I just turned The Sound of Music song into my post title, but with stores instead of things {haha}. It just felt so right! Anyways, if you have been a follower of my blog or read it daily you may have already noticed that I am obsessed with certain stores {ahem, Banana Republic and Pottery Barn, to name just a few}. Well I thought it would be fun to share with you all my favorite stores. I love shopping around on the internet to find the best prices and deals, but I usually stick to certain stores because I know I'm getting quality when buying from them. I guess you can say I'm more of an internet shopper than anything, due to the not-so-great variety of stores in my area and I can take my time browsing everything and not feel so rushed or feel like I have to buy something. Usually my philosophy is if I see something online and love it, but don't want to buy it right away because its full price or really expensive, I usually wait and if I find myself going back to it a lot or the price drops and its still available I'll then snatch it up. I'm not going to lie, I love a good deal! I mean who doesn't? And, with stores these days it most likely {I'm about 85% sure} will go on sale in the following few weeks. So here is a list of my favorite stores.

Pic of the Week

I got a little back into painting over the weekend and made this for my best friend's step-daughter's bathroom redo {yea, thats a mouthful}. I don't paint all the time, but occassionally I will pull out a canvas and some acrylics to create something for my home or a friend. I'm not a huge fan of pink and black zebra print, but that's what she wanted so that's what she got. I think it turned out pretty cute. I had trouble taking a picture of it because it was dark outside and the lighting in my room isn't necessarily the best. I love painting for fun. Its so calming and rewarding to me {of course only when it comes out the way I want it to}. I started drawing owls last year as a hobby and might start dabbling in watercoloring soon to give them some color and when I do I hope to open an Etsy shop. Maybe I can get on that once my home office is done {who knows when that will be}! Wishful thinking!

A Simple DIY

Among the many small projects I have planned, I managed to accomplish this one over the weekend. I made it for my entryway to hang by the key hooks. I don't know if it will ultimately go there, but thats the plan for now. So without further adieu, here is the easiest DIY ever!

Things You'll Need:
White Frame - I got mine at Target (which you can find here).
Light Colored Burlap Fabric - I got mine from Fabric.com (which you can find here).
Antique Inspired Keys - I got mine from Amazon (which you can find here).
Hot Glue Gun - I already had.
Piece of Cardboard - I already had, but you need this to put the burlap over. You could also use the back of the frame or just something sturdy.

Instructions:
Cut your piece of burlap and cover the piece of cardboard {I glued it together}. Then, hot glue the keys to the burlap in a pattern of your liking. Put it all in the frame and hang!

It's as easy as that and you have something cute for your wall! Let me know if you make one or better yet send me a picture of it!
