Artsy Tuesday - Puns Intended

I introduce to you Kate Gabrielle from Puns Intended on Etsy. Sound familiar? She is also the artist behind Flapper Doodle, and the author and creator of the blog, Scathingly Brilliant {for those of you new to the blog, I featured her Flapper Doodle work last year, you can find that here}. Kate is a full time illustrator, living and working in New Jersey. She also happens to be a lover of furbabies, like myself, having three, Hypatia, Chloe and Hubble {they are the cutest and always make appearances on her blog}. I have always adored Kate's work and was really excited to see that she had another art shop {I'm kind of late discovering it, but glad I did}. She is so very talented and one of the sweetest people ever! I have to admit her work in this shop made me giggle a lot and I instantly knew I had to share it with you all. So take a look at some of my favorites from her shop.

Aren't they fun? I think my absolute favorite is the Astaireing Contest, but it's kind of hard to pick just one because they are all great! So if you haven't come across Kate's little corner of the blog world then go check it out! Her weekly outfit posts are amazing! The girl's got style! Also, stop by her Flapper Doodle shop, it's the cutest!

xoxo, Kayleigh.

Birthday Goodies

If you stopped by last week you'd know that my birthday was last week and although I complained about the fact that I'm getting older and want to stay in my twenties forever, I did however get treated very well on the big day. I worked half day and then met my mom for a delicious lunch and roamed around our small city. We went antique shopping and also went shoe shopping for a pair of shoes I need for an upcoming wedding I'm in. It was so great to spend time with my mom since she had been in Canada visiting her family for several weeks and before that she was in Paris with my dad, aunt and uncle. Let's just say I was starting to feel as though she was never home and since we are the best of friends I was starting to miss her a lot! So to enjoy my day with her was wonderful. After we roamed around for most of the day we met up with my dad, brother, and the boyfriend for some yummy dinner at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants and then headed to my parents for some cake and gifts! I have the most thoughtful family and friends in the world I swear. Here are some goodies I got in lieu of the day.

1. Anne-Marie Chagnon Calena Earrings - My mom picked these up from the Montreal jewelry artist, Anne Marie Chagnon, for me when she was in Canada. I have a ring by her also and her work is absolutely beautiful.
2. Schoolhouse Numbered Hooks - From the boyfriend. He was definitely paying attention to my blog post, Hooks for an Unconventional Entryway!
3. Dior Addict Extreme Lipstick in Riviera - From my good friend Paige. She always spoils me with goodies from Dior.
4. Nike Free Run+ 3 in Hot Punch - From the boyfriend. Can't wait to take these bad boys out and start running again.
5. Tibos Electric Crepe Maker - From my grandmother and aunt. My aunt apparently spotted these in Paris when her and my parents went to Paris in May and the idea to get me one was born. I love crepes and this was a fantastic gift!
6. Dior Nail Polish in Riviera - Another goody from my friend Paige.
7. Sperry Top-Sider Angelfish in Leopard Pony - From the boyfriend. We are both avid lovers of Sperry's and find them to be so comfy!
8. Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss in Extravagant Grenadine - Yet, another goody from Paige. Like I said she spoils me too much!

I also received money from my parents, youngest brother, and grandparents which they were so generous about, a pretty watch from my mom, and a beautiful owl necklace from my other brother whose hiking the entire Appalachian trail as we speak. I have the best family and friends in the world. I can not thank them enough for everything they have given me over the years and the love and support they have also given me. I am very blessed!! xoxo, Kayleigh.

Guest Post - Kit from What a Peach!

About a month or so ago I asked the wonderful and lovely Kit from What a Peach! if she would be interested in doing a guest post for you all and she gladly agreed. So here she is!

Hi! I’m Kit and I blog over at What a Peach! I was thrilled when Kayleigh asked me to write a little guest post as I love The Gotta Have It Girl. I often post about the piles of books I have waiting to be read, but realized I never really talk about books I have read in the past. So I thought for this guest appearance, I’d talk about a pile of fun, light reads that are excellent for the summer or just when you fancy a simple ‘boy meets girl...and we all know what happens next’ sort of read! I’m American but have lived in England for12 years now, so I thought it might be fun to focus on books that have some link to England or Ireland too.

You might recognize Sophie Kinsella’s name because of her Shopoholic series (they made one of them into a film) but I’m recommending Remember Me. Lexi wakes up in hospital thinking she’s twenty-five, a bit hopeless and single. Instead, it turns out she’s three years older, is married and a super successful career woman. As she tries to fit in to her new life, she realises that all is not as it seems.

I’ve enjoyed all of Melissa Nathan’s books but sadly there are only a few as she passed away not long after she began writing full time. Acting Up is her first book, but I would say my favourite is The Learning Curve.

Savannah Breeze is the only book on my list that doesn’t have anything to do with the UK (as far as I can remember!). But I thought it was fun as I love the idea of opening up a little B&B and the main character suddenly finds herself in charge of a ramshackle hotel!

David Nicholls wrote the popular One Day but Starter for Ten was his debut novel and is fantastic! It’s about a young man’s journey to get on the university’s quiz team, try to get the girl and his constant attempts at being cool. If you enjoyed One Day, you’ll enjoy this too- this is my top recommendation!

I love Marian Keyes’ books because they’re easy, fast, funny reads for a lazy weekend. All the ones I’ve read take place in Ireland, which makes for a nice change too. Further Under the Duvet is her second collection of laugh out loud essays on fashion, travel, friends and more.

Cecelia Ahern’s debut novel P.S. I Love You was adapted into a film but I’ve never managed to make myself watch it or read it as I think I’d just sob like an idiot, but I loved If You Could See Me Now- it’s quirky and sweet.

Well, that’s my round up; I’ve tried to keep it brief so I wouldn’t overstay my welcome! Many thanks again to Kayleigh for letting me blab away for a bit!

A huge thanks to Kit for her sweet post and hope she does more for us soon! I also hope you all go show her some love over on her lovely blog! Have a good Thursday! xoxo, Kayleigh.

Artsy Tuesday - Laura George

I introduce to you Laura from Laura George on Etsy. She is an artist and illustrator living and working in Chicago, Illinois.  Her work includes fun and quirky characters and animals, as well as inspiring and sweet sayings. I absolutely adore Laura's work and think it is fabulous! The colors she uses are beautiful and any of her pieces would give a lot of character to your space. Laura is one talented lady and it is clearly shown in her art! I also admire her great 'artsy' sense of humor. So take a look at some of my favorites from her shop.

Aren't they wonderful? I think my absolute favorite is either the Floating Print or Everything Wonderful Happens Here Print, even though it's really hard to pick one because I love them all! Laura also has a great blog and you can view more of her portfolio over on her flickr page. So stop by her shop, tell her hello, then come back and tell me which one's your fave!! I bet you can't just pick one!

xoxo, Kayleigh

Birthday Wish List

Well my birthday is tomorrow and I'm starting to get kind of depressed at the fact that I'm getting older. Some of you may laugh at me, but I think the years are starting to go by way too fast and before I know it I'll be 30 {I have awhile but I'm just saying} and well you know the rest of that whiny story {as women everywhere have probably complained about a million times at one time or another}. I really love the age I'm at now and would stay in my twenties forever if I could. Oh, what life would be like to go back to college full time, be 21 all over again and have not a care in the world! Don't get me wrong I have a wonderful life full of loving and caring, family and friends and not to mention my wonderful boyfriend and furbabies, but I don't know, getting older is for the birds and quite depressing especially if your not ready for it {I'm sure no one's ever ready}. I kind of get anxiety about it all the time! But I guess life goes on and I can't control it {I hate things I can't control}. So enough of my complaining for the day and now time to share a few things that are on my birthday wish list.

Nike Free Run+ Running Shoe in Hot Punch - Aren't these fabulous? I need a new pair of running shoes and actually need to start running/working out and what better way then to start with these baby's on my feet!

Sperry Top-Sider Angelfish Shoe in Leopard Pony - I don't care what anyone says Sperry Top-Sider's are by far the most comfortable shoes ever! They are also starting to make really cute styles for women hence this beautiful pair!

Chanel Chance Eau de Parfum - This is my go to perfume which I absolutely love and ran out of. I usually always ask for perfume for my birthday or Christmas. It's just a thing I guess!

Sycamore Street Press Des Patisseries Art Print - I adore this print and have had my eye on it for some time now. I would love to see it hanging in my kitchen.

West Elm Potter's Workshop Napkin Set - I have a thing for cloth napkins lately {which I'll talk about next week} and these are amazing and a must have!

Do you feel the same about getting older? Have any anxiety about it? I could be the only one, but I highly doubt it. I guess its just a fact of life and everyone experiences it. xoxo, Kayleigh

A Knee Update and a Guest Post

Hope everyone is having a good week and your happy tomorrow is Friday like me! I just wanted to give you a little knee update. I went to the doctor yesterday morning and had an x-ray done. The bones in my knee are fine, but the doctor said there is definitely inflammation in there so I got a cortisone shot in my knee {if you have never had it done its definitely weird and kind of hurts}. I think I actually asked the poor guy a million questions before he was able to shut me up and give it to me. He also said that if I'm still in pain in the next couple of weeks then I need to get an MRI done, have some therapy and go from there. So I guess I'll take everything as it comes. I hope the shot takes care of it, but you never know. I'm deathly afraid of surgery because well, I've never had any done before so hopefully this helps the situation. Fingers crossed!

Also, the sweet and lovely Kit from What a Peach! asked me about a month or so ago to guest post over on her blog and it is now live! I'm talking about the 2009 BBC four-part mini-series, Emma. So go give her some love and tell her I sent you. Hope you enjoy it and see you lovely people back here on Monday! xoxo, Kayleigh

A Bum Knee

I am sorry I had no post for today but I've been nursing a bad knee for the past couple of weeks. I think many years of playing soccer, as well as injuring my knee pretty badly about 6 months ago, has all finally caught up to me. I'm going to be taking the week off to try and get myself better. I have an appointment Thursday with an Orthopedic doctor so hopefully I can get some answers as to why my knee has been swelling and hurting constantly for the past couple of weeks. So wish me luck! I am postponing the Artsy Tuesday post I had scheduled for tomorrow until next Tuesday, but I may still pop in to do my Fave Friday post at the end of the week, we'll see.

Until then, hope everyone has a good week!

20x200

Another great site I've come across recently where you can purchase affordable art prints is 20x200. Launched back in 2007, 20x200 is known for their philosophy that 'everyone needs art' and they strive to make collecting art fun! I totally agree with their philosophy and think it's so great that they have found a way to offer art to people affordably, as well as support artists and their work at the same time. There are all sorts of goodies on this site with new art available every week, but if you see something you like you should snatch it up quickly because once it's gone it's gone! So here are some prints from their curated collection that I've been swooning over and think are wonderful.

Have you heard of this great site? If so, buy anything from it?

Hooks for an Unconventional Entryway

So the boyfriend and I are a little unconventional when it comes to putting things up when we get home from work or wherever. We don't hang hats, coats, keys or purses on a hook or hooks by the front door. We usually toss everything on this small ledge we have next to our kitchen and by the stairs that lead to the second floor {this is also where the mail accumulates, but thats a whole other topic for a whole other day}. I've been desperately wanting to figure out a way to stop doing this because its starts to look like clutter after awhile. I think I want to put up some hooks on a narrow part of wall space we have right in front of the stairs since this is where the junk usually accumulates anyways. So here are some hook options I've been looking at.

Which one do you like? Any help would be much appreciated! I'm kind of leaning more towards the schoolhouse numbered hooks {I'd get all three or maybe I need more}, but I'm once again being too indecisive. Any suggestions?
