All Hallow's Eve

We had a good time Saturday night at my friend Nicole's Halloween costume party. Her grandmother made a huge pot of delicious gumbo (I asked for the recipe, but she said 'grandma never makes it the same twice') and we had other food that was excellent. I made some deviled eggs which were a big hit. We, of course, drank most of the night and enjoyed everyone's costumes and goofiness. It was a great time! I diy'ed my Mary Poppins mini hat and huge navy tulle tutu then put together the rest with stuff I already had except for the bowtie which I bought online from a costume shop. Ian's Bert costume was put together with mostly things he already had except for his necktie and suspenders. Both costumes turned out really cute. I wish I would have taken more pictures of us, but we were too busy mingling and taking pictures of other peoples costumes. The picture above on the left is of my good friend Nicole and I. She went as a duck and her boyfriend went as Willie from the show Duck Dynasty. It was cute and hilarious. And, the the picture on the right is Ian and I acting goofy. Ian was in rare form that night and cracked everyone up with his suspenders. It was too funny.

Well I hate to see Halloween go since its my favorite holiday, but I guess there is no controlling it so it's on to the next one! Can you believe Thanksgiving is in 3 weeks!? I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween night. I will be staying home and watching the Halloween movie marathon on AMC (my favorite). I have one pumpkin left to carve so we'll do that and bake pumpkin seeds and wait to see if any kiddies come by. We usually have one small group that does. So again Happy Halloween! xoxo, Kayleigh

Artsy Tuesday - Please Be Still Printshop

I introduce to you Jen from Please Be Still Printshop on Etsy. She is a freelance illustrator out of Tampa, Florida. Jen has been illustrating over the past decade and she opened her shop in 2007. If you read any of her bios you can definitely tell that she absolutely enjoys what she does and I love that! She works in two different styles, collage and painting/drawing, and a few of her clients include The Washington Post, The New York Times, Better Homes and Gardens, Urban Outfitters, and Penguin Books.

I really love Jen's work. I first stumbled upon her shop when I came across some postcard prints of hers on Pinterest. I just fell in love and needed to know more about the artist behind them. And, I'm happy to say she did not disappoint! Jen is one talented lady and I love the story behind her work. I also love that most of the quotes in her collages are uplifting and so wonderful. All I can say is her work is beautiful! So take a look at some of my favorites from her shop.

Aren't they wonderful? I think my absolute favorite is the You Are Lovely Print. So beautiful and would be so fun in my master bedroom! Jen also has a great website where you can find more of her work, her bio, blog, and a lot more from her. She's also very sweet so go visit her shop and show her some love! xoxo, Kayleigh

Spooky Movies

So I decided a few weekends ago while watching the Syfy channel (they had started their 31 days of Halloween marathon) that I wanted to give you all a little rundown before Halloween on some of my favorite spooky flicks that you should definitely see. If your interested in seeing them and worried about them being overly gorey well they really aren't. I love scary/horror movies (its my favorite movie genre), but without all of the gore every 5 seconds. I like them better when they are just downright creepy and scare the pants off of me. Some of these on this list are classics and you may have already seen, while others are fairly new and totally great! So here are some spooky flicks that are sure to get you in the Halloween mood {in no particular order of course}!

This film came out in 2009 and is sure to make you jump out of your seat. Although not overly scary, it definitely has the creep factor going for it. This movie is probably in my top 5 favorite scary movies. Its just one of those films that I thought was well done and it actually won a couple of awards.

A classic from 1992 although the acting and scenes are a little cheesy at times. I think Gary Oldman played the best Dracula. The creepiest moment is when Dracula's in his castle, Keanu Reeves's character is shaving and  he's 'trying' to help. Total creep factor! I haven't seen this on recently, but AMC used to play it on their Fear Friday specials throughout the year.

This is a film from 2007 that's sure to scare the pants off of you especially if your freaked out by dolls. The little ventriloquist doll in it is super creepy and the woman who owns him is even creepier. But, True Blood fans will love that the lead character is played by Ryan Kwanten {total hottie, Jason Stackhouse}. Syfy usually plays this during the Halloween season and at other times of the year.

A 1982 classic. If you haven't seen this one then your probably living in a bubble. This film is usually played on some channels every Halloween season, but for some reason I haven't seen it on this year. This one is also the first movie in a trilogy and all of them have that creep factor. I also think the little girl who plays Carol Anne in them is super adorable.

Definitely in my top 5 favorite scary movies. I waited and waited for this to come out in theaters and they kept pushing it back then it never did. It did however go straight to dvd in 2007 which I was a little confused about because it is really great and I think people would have appreciated it! The film is an anthology of four Halloween related scary stories that all take place Halloween night. At the end you then see how they all intertwine with one another and you sit there thinking did that really just happened!? I had to watch it a couple of times and I think thats why I liked it so much because it made me think about it in the end. It was just brilliant!

My number 1 favorite scary movie from 1978 and if you haven't seen it then shame on you. This is, to me, what set the standards for all scary movies after it. It's funny because I actually didn't see the whole film until 2007, but its one that I can watch over and over again without hesitation. It comes on every Halloween season and I watch it when it does everytime. I also own the dvd and watch it all year round. I'm a big fan of the whole Halloween franchise except for the 3rd one called Season of the Witch. That one was a little odd and didn't follow the Michael Myers storyline.

I am a huge Tim Burton fan and I think this 1999 film is one of his best. I love the spooky factor of this film and its a classic Halloween tale that used to scare me as a kid. It really had some great actors also which I've come to appreciate in all Tim Burton films. This movie is in my top 5 favorite scary movies.

Oh, Scream! How can you have grown up in the 90's and not seen this 1996 slasher film. This has a huge creep factor I guess because it could happen in real life. I thought it was great in the end when you do find out who the real killer(s) are and you can rewatch the movie and say ahhh now I see it. Great film! I also loved Scream 2, 3 and 4.

This is a newer film that came out in 2011. I was really excited to see it and well let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I loved it! Its got the total creep factor going on and it makes you jump a lot! If you haven't seen it then you really must. Movies like this one are what makes me appreciate scary movies just that much more.

My brother and I both share a love for this 1999 remake. Its just one of those movies that gives you the creepy vibe. They even recently came out with a sequel called Return to House on Haunted Hill. Its not bad, but not as good as the first of course. The Syfy channel has been playing this a lot this Halloween season.

I think if I had to tell you my top 5 favorite spooky movies in order it would have to be 1. Halloween 2. Drag Me To Hell 3. Sleepy Hollow 4. Trick R Treat 5. Scream. Although I really do love them all equally as well as the ones not on my top 5 that I shared above and others that I did not share. They all have something in them that makes them totally awesome and worth seeing over and over again. So has anyone seen any movies on this list? Does anyone have any favorites that are not on this list? Did anyone go see the new Silent Hill movie over the weekend!? xoxo, Kayleigh

Guest Post: Kit from What a Peach!

Hello there! I'm thrilled to be back guest blogging on The Gotta Have It Girl. Last time I visited, I wrote about some fun summery easy reads. This time, as the nights grow darker and the days grow rainy-er (I am writing from London after all), I thought I'd pull together a go-to list of films to curl up on the couch in front of.

My first thoughts were to just pull together a top five, but then I decided that it might be more fun to try to think of some slightly less obvious choices. These aren't obscure films, but hopefully this will give you some new ideas or remind you of old favourites! Because I wanted to write a bit about each one, I narrowed it down to a top three.

When my sister and I were younger and simultaneously ill with flu, my parents brought Young Frakenstein home. We laughed so hard and watched it repeatedly. This Mel Brooks comedy is lovingly shot in black and white (old stylee- with an old style preview too) and has some great gags in it- we even referenced it in the form of a special groomsmen dance at my sister's wedding!

Sticking to childhood memories, one of my favourite musicals that made me feel warm and fuzzy was Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Set in the wilds of Oregon (where I'm from!) we've got great songs, fabulous dancing, awesome acrobatics, slightly dubious plots for getting a bride and dresses that look like quilts (that last one still blows my mind- I want a quilt dress!).

Sometimes, you just need something a bit weepy and stunning, and that's where The Fall comes in. I'd seen this advertised on a few DVD previews (retro, right?) and decided that because Lee Pace is so lovely, I really ought to watch it. This has got adventure, sumptuous costumes and locations, a beautiful story and engaging characters. I say it's weepy, but not to the point of making you feel mopey and it's very beautiful and very sweet.

I hope at least one of these sparks your interest, happy watching! Kit

Thanks Kit for sharing your go-to list for films! I hope you all visit Kit's wonderful blog and show her some love! xoxo, Kayleigh

Artsy Tuesday - Paper Sparrow

I introduce you to Andrea from Paper Sparrow on Etsy. Andrea is a cellist and artist living and working in New York City. She says 'As an artist and musician I am divided between two creative worlds. My process of creating art is intrinsically like refining a passage of music through practice, writing original pieces, or listening to my favorite recordings--it is quite involved.' Her themes include music and animals, and the mediums she uses in her paintings are watercolors, gouache and ink pens and her illustrations are mixed in with digital aspects.

I came across Andrea's work while browsing fox art on Etsy a couple of months ago {I don't know why, but I've been in a fox kind of kick lately}. I am so glad I did find her work though because it is absolutely beautiful. Each piece is so vibrant and full of character, and you can definitely tell that Andrea is one talented lady. I really adore her work as a whole and think it is wonderful. Any of her pieces would look great displayed in your home or even be cute as a gift. So take a look at some of my favorites.
Fun, right!? It's so hard to choose my favorite because I adore them all, but since I always share with you my one most fave then it would have to be the Foxes in Love. Andrea also has a pretty blog you should check out in addition to her shop. So now I'm curious, which on of her prints are your favorite? xoxo, Kayleigh.

Oh, What a Week!

So apparently blogger has been having this ongoing problem with their customize template/advance settings so I can't change my links to the color I want them right now. I just changed the header and welcome message back to pink until they resolve the issue. I even tried modifying the html code, but it still didn't work. So aggravating, but oh well, can't really do anything about it until they fix it. Also, we had an infestation of fruit flies this week so I spent 2.5 hours after getting home from work last night cleaning my kitchen pretty much from top to bottom. Those little buggers suck and I am well aware that thats probably not the last we'll be seeing them and that just sucks even more. And, they multiple so quickly its ridiculous. I woke up Wednesday morning to find a whole slew of them dead on the bottom of the refrigerator. D I S G U S T I N G! So I took everything out of our refrigerator, washed the whole entire thing including every drawer and nook. Then I washed every bottle/container that was in it and tossed the fruit we had. Then I cleaned everything on the counters, the actual counters, the stove, and the sink. Oh and not to mention the floor. All with the help of the boyfriend of course, but I was super tired after so didn't really prepare a post for today. I usually like to plan most of my posts before the week even starts, but occasionally I leave a day open to talk about whatever I'm in the mood for at the moment. Its just been that kind of week where nothing seems to go right and your not feeling the greatest at the same time. But I guess I really can't stay mad and frustrated for long when everytime I turn around this cute face pops up to 'help'. This time she was sleeping in the dirty clothes basket. Crazy little fluffy monster! I had to laugh and take this picture because she kind of popped out of the clothes.

Well I hope ya'll are having a better week than I am. Sorry to complain so much, I guess it could be worse. Enjoy your day! xoxo, Kayleigh

Scrumptious Fall Recipes

If your in the mood for some fall comfort food, check out these recipes. I just had to share them with you. I have made them all and they are super D E L I C I O U S. All of them except for one includes either pumpkin or butternut squash. And, they are all so simple to make. I wouldn't lie to you!

I hope you try them out and let me know if you liked them or not. I'm curious! Enjoy! xoxo, Kayleigh

PS. I got sick of the pink already and switched to a light green! Bare with me though while my links are still pink. I've been trying to change them, but something is wrong with Blogger and it won't update properly. Is anyone else having trouble!?

Artsy Tuesday - Amber Alexander

I introduce you to Amber from Amber Alexander on Etsy. She is an artist living and working in Vermont. She says, "I have always been an artist, and as a child, drew page after page of girls with different outfits on, and animals in clothes (inspired by Beatrix Potter of course)." Amber attended liberal arts school where she majored in Art and minored in Art History. She loves to use watercolor and recently her work was in a children's book that was published called 'Ninny Nu's Organic Farm'. Her main theme for this shop is animals, but she also has another Etsy shop where she showcases her landscape and nature paintings.

I absolutely adore Amber's work. I think it is so wonderful and beautifully done. This woman has a huge talent and it is definitely shown in each and every piece. I first came across Amber's Foxes and Ferns print on Pinterest and I'm so glad I did because there was definitely more where it came from that's for sure. I mean the colors she uses are so vivid and the detailing is amazing. So take a look at some of my favorites from her shop. It was so hard to choose because I really loved them all.

Aren't they great? I think my absolute favorite is the Mae Fox print. I just love the face of the fox! So beautiful. So again, go visit her shop and also visit her landscape/nature shop, Shady Rill. You will not be disappointed. Please do come back and let me know which ones your favorite! xoxo, Kayleigh

Eastwitching Haystackers Game

I just wanted to let you all know that my lovely sponsor Alison from Eastwitching has started her Haystackers Game again today over on her blog. Now the Haystackers Game is a little game she plays with her readers where she hides a needle in one of her art prints on Etsy and gives you a hint on where you can find it. Usually she gives you the category like birds or something. Once you've found the needle then you send her an email saying where its hidden and then comment on her blog post saying which print you would like if you win. It's super fun and you win a print if you get randomly chosen at the end. She has decided since starting back up again that she will be doing the game twice a month so you have plenty of chances to win one of her prints. But of course if you can't wait then you can always just purchase the one you want from her shop. So go visit her blog and play the game! Each game lasts two weeks so you have plenty of time to enter the first game! I promise its fun! Good luck! xoxo, Kayleigh

What I'm Currently Wearing On My Nails

The only reason I came across this nail color I'm about to share with you is because I had to wear something on my toe nails for that wedding I was in last month and I needed something similar in color to the dress. So the day before I strolled into my local Target and picked it out literally in 1 minute. Well let me tell you this nail color is B E A U T I F U L on. It's called Go Overboard by Essie. I wore it just on my toes for the wedding, but the day after immediately painted my finger nails. It's way darker than the picture shows below and more like a dark teal color. I think it's a great transitional fall color. I have been really loving the mustard and teal combo lately and this would be perfect paired with a pretty mustard colored sweater/cardigan.
Have you tried this color yet? If not, definitely pick up a bottle! You will not be disappointed and it will be the best $8 you ever spent. If there's one thing I do keep up with, it would be my nails (I made a comment about this to Ian the other night and he agreed and of course laughed). They always have to be painted and look their best! I always have them short and paint them myself pretty much every Thursday night. What is your nail routine? Do you get them done? Do them yourself? xoxo, Kayleigh.
